Group Scout Leader
The Group Scout Leader (GSL) ensures the effective operation of the Group and the development of Scouting within the Group in accordance with the Purpose, Principles and Policies as laid out by The Scout Association.
The GSL is responsible for all the Section Leaders and overseas the other roles within the Group and the Group Executive. In turn the GSL is responsible to the District Commissioner.
The main roles for the GSL includes ensuring;
- the Group has an adequate team of 'fit and proper' adults working together to meet the Scouting needs of the area
- that all adults are supported in their roles and have access to adequate training
- that a challenging and exciting programme is provided
- problems within the Group are resolved
- that risk assessments are carried out and that relevant first aid provisions are in place
- that regular meetings of the adult leadership team are held to provide communication, links and activities between the Sections
- the Group is promoted and publicised within the local community
- effective communication within the District by attending District GSL meetings
