Cub Badges
(To view the Cubs progress with badges you will need to be logged in!)
At 12th Didcot Scouts, we try and give our Cubs a wide variety of activities for them to participate in. Each term we try to incorpoarate a Challenge badge & where possible activity badges for the Cubs to work towards, this not only provides them with the skills that are relevant to the badge, but also that sense of pride of having achieved.
There are two different types of badges on offer:
- Challenge Badges - These tend to take a relatively long amount of time, and require the Cubs to undertake a number of different activities. Although these can be done individually, they tend to be done by the pack as a whole. The Challenge Badges available are Promise, Community, Fitness, Creative, Global, Outdoor & Outdoor Plus. If the first six of these are achieved the Cub gains their Chief Scout's Silver Award; the highest award in the Cub section.
- Activity Badges - There are 35 of these in total and they cover an enormous range of activities and skills. These can be achieved individually and in many cases can be gained based on the Cubs normal activities (for example, Animal Carer, Book Reader, Collector & Home Help). If a Cub regularly takes part in an activity be sure to check if there is a badge available (e.g. Sports Enthusiast, Martial Arts & Equestrian). To complete a badge individually please take evidence of completing the requirements to your leader on one of the assigned badge nights; details of all the requirements can be found in the Cubs Powerpack.
Two badge nights are held per term for the Cubs to go through badges they have completed at home with leaders. Cubs can also use this evening to discuss with their leaders any problems they have with completing the requirements.
As a group, we try and offer a range of badges from both sections; however we focus on the Challenge Badges within Cubs as these are more difficult to achieve individually. A different Challenge Badge is completed each term with the aim that all Cubs will achieve their Chief Scout's Silver Award during their time in Cubs. However most of the activities that we run each term will feature in one of the activity badges and can be used to achieve the requirements.
The most important part of the badge work is that the Cubs have fun earning them!
