Badges & Activities

Beaver_3.gifAt 12th Didcot Sea Scouts, we try and give our Beavers a wide variety of activities for them to participate in. Each term we try aim to incorpoarate a Challenge or Activity badge for them to work towards, this not only provides them with the skills that are relevant to the badge, but also that sense of pride of having achieved.

There are two different types of badges on offer:

  • Challenge Badges - These tend to take a relatively long amount of time, and require the Beavers to undertake a number of different activities. We aim to achieve these badges as a colony. The Challenge Badges available are Promise, Fitness, Creative, Friendship, Global & Outdoor. If all of the challenge badges are gained during their time in Beavers they gain their Chief Scout's Bronze Award; the highest award in the Beaver section.
  • Activity Badges - There are 12 of these available to Beavers and they cover a range of activities and skills. Thy can be achieved individually and in many cases can be gained based on the Beavers normal activities outside of the group (for example, Animal Friend, Creative & Hobbies). To complete a badge individually please take evidence of completing the requirements to your leader; details of all the requirements can be found in the Beaver logbook.

As a group, we try and offer a range of badges from both sections; however we focus on the Challenge Badges as these are more difficult to achieve individually. A different Challenge Badge is completed each term with the aim that all Beavers will achieve their Chief Scout's Bronze Award during their time in Beavers. However most of the activities that we run each term will feature in one of the activity badges and can be used to achieve the requirements.

The most important part of the badge work is that the Beavers have fun earning them!
